In its native countries of India and Nepal, clever Vetiver is used in an abundance of ways, including household products, food and drink and even as an agricultural tool to protect the countryside from erosion, during monsoon season. The Vetiveria Zizanoides plant is tall and grassy. Essential oil is extracted from the roots of the plant which grow in strong, intricate systems under the earth. Steam distillation releases a thick, earthy fragranced oil, known as the ‘oil of tranquillity’.

The calming effect of Vetiver makes it a perfect addition to any aromatherapy blend designed to soothe and unwind the body and mind. Particularly good for night time blends, try adding Vetiver to a vaporisation blend and diffusing before bedtime. Vetiver is a very viscous oil by nature (with abrupt changes in temperature it has the property to crystallize), so we recommend gently warming the bottle of oil in a cup of warm water before use.

The oil is obtained through steam distillation of the roots and its aroma is characterized as rich, earthy and smoky. In perfumery, it is base note. Blends well with neroli, sweet orange, sandalwood, ylang ylang, geranium and lemongrass.
